this is not our baby...

*

...but it is someone we know. our birthing center friends, Thea and Jeff, had their baby early and we went over to see little Sabina. Welcome, little girl.

We were due around the same time so that kicked us into high gear getting things ready for our little human to arrive. baby seats and birth plans and painting the nursery. we were like crazy people this weekend.

Wendy and Violet take a break from the action.

Rancid was in town and I went to see them at the Liberty Hall because I got on the guest list. It was clear that I am not a teenager anymore, but the show was so full of energy that it was hard to stay jaded for long.

How many red mohawks can fit into a small town and not be the majority, I still wonder?

Baby Shower at the Cottin's House

*

time to go to the baby shower with Ariana - Violet's future friend across the street from us with her mom, Nicole. We're really lucky to have them so close. Ariana rules.

This is the house where we spend Sunday afternoons at our standing croquet playing party. I've yet to play, but some people get fired up for a game. This is also where the baby shower was.

this is Linda. She is not interested in being photographed but I was relentless. She is an angel. She has been the most gracious, funny and cool person that we have met so far. She and Tom run the local hardware store. They are almost singlehandedly the reason we have any social life.

I was allowed to come over after 8:30 and most people had left, but I got into some serious snacks and caught some great coversation about lactating through one's clothes in public. Good stuff all around.

trailer trash and a love garden

*

this is the love garden. they are now selling the re:Active magazine. they are the only store that sells vinyl in town. a very cool store indeed.

where the teepee ignites with culinary delights.

presumably not where the people who are here to serve whitey go to school. hmmm. pretty scary.

these people may be responsible for the school. then again, they may be just as held down. trailer americans unite!

socko your face

my friend Sam rolled into town in this crazy buggy. He is part owner in an energy drink company and spends his time touring around to events giving out hyper-caffeinated sugar bombs to the masses. It was really good to spend some time with him. I laughed my ass off rolling through downtown KC in this thing.

payless new store opens

*

a store in the seventies.

...and in 2006. the first of the new stores opened yesterday in Kansas City. They will eventually become this all around the country. Some of the hard work is paying off. A much different approach. We'll see...

birthing center

*

This is the birthing center in Topeka where we'll be having our child.

Norla is the midwife and such a gentle and knowledgeable woman. Just seeing her calms me down about this whole process.

This is the bed where Violet will be born. It is only a few weeks away on the 10th of August. I will probably be freaking out more than Wendy. I am going to catch her as she comes out. I can't imagine or wait.

brain enemas on a hot Tuesday night

not too many posts recently. we are four weeks away from violets arrival and there are many things to do. expectant times.

i went waterskiing for the first time ever a couple of days ago. i am really sore today. fell a LOT. freshwater brain enema through the nose as well. i finally got up after about five times and feeling like giving up but it was a blast. my friend david and his wife have access to her father's boat. it will be a fun way to cool off in the heat. it's hot.
